- 2 boxes Betty Crocker Pound Cake mix
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 4 eggs
- 1 1/3 cups milk
- Red food coloring
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- Additional milk for icing
- Vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and coat a 9×5 inch loaf pan with cooking spray.
- In a mixing bowl, combine one box of pound cake mix with 1/4 cup butter, 2 eggs, and 2/3 cup milk; whisk until smooth. Add red food coloring for desired shade.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for about 50 minutes, then cool and refrigerate for easier cutting.
- Cut heart shapes from thick slices using a cookie cutter and set aside.
- Prepare the second cake layer without food coloring by repeating step 2; pour just enough batter to cover the bottom of another loaf pan.
